Walking and Flying With Christ

A Newsletter of the California/Nevada Emmaus/Chrysalis Community

December 26, 2014

I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior – yes, the Messiah, the Lord – has been born tonight in Bethlehem.  Luke 2:10-11

 Community Lay Director’s Message

What a year!  This year we welcomed eighty new members to the NCNEC Community through three Walks and two Flights.  Behind the scenes, we also updated background Chief Manuals.  It was a really great year for strengthening the Community.

Twenty-Fifteen promises to be a great year as well!  We welcome to the Board of Directors three new members:  Carolyn Brodt, Eugene Estrella and Holiday Manly; and four returning members: Rob Dunning, Ellen Thomas, Caree Walker and Ralph Whitten.  These individuals will fill five three-year terms and the remaining terms of two vacated positions.  Under the leadership of Steve Plocher Community Lay Director, and George Baker, Assistant Community Lay Director, we will build on this year’s accomplishments.  We will increase our focus on area gatherings, supporting new and existing reunion groups and improving communication between the Community Board and individual congregations.

Walks and Flights for 2015 have been scheduled.

The Spring Walks will be at South Reno United Methodist Church.

            Men’s Walk – April 30-May 3

            Women’s Walk – May 14-17.

The Summer Flights will be in the Greater Sacramento Area.  Specific location to be determined in January.

            Girl’s Flight – July 9-12

            Boy’s Flight – July 23-26

The Fall Walks will be at the Atwater United Methodist Church

            Men’s Walk – September 17-20

            Women’s Walk – October 1-4

A heartfelt word of thanks goes to Linda Fitzgerald, Sharon Lawrence and Billy Thomas, whose terms on the Board end with the January meeting.

A special word of thanks goes to all those Sponsors who led eighty new Caterpillars and Pilgrims to their Flights and Walks.  Sponsorship is what keeps the Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis programs alive and vibrant.  You have been an inspiration to all of us in the local and broader Emmaus and Chrysalis Communities.  Thanks so much!

Warren Schwegel,  2014 Community Lay Director
